Attention is Media

I can’t get this idea out of my head! “Attention is Media!”

I had the opportunity to hook up with old friend and attention guru Seth Goldstein last friday. We spent some time together at Medium, a very cool concept, and later had a chance to catch up. He’s got some new ideas cooking around attention and attentionsoft his new play.

Seth always has a unique way of thinking about attention that always leaves my head spinning thinking about the possibilities. Well he did again with this one – Attention is media.

My perception of attention is always around behavior data that can be used to predict or optimize future behavior. It must be my DoubleClick/ MatchLogic advertising background. But Seth has this reblog conceptualization of attention that’s much different.

Media use to be about broadcast networks like NBC or CBS or CNN or NYT or WSJ etc. which broadcast what we paid attention too.

But now “Attention is Media” is about attention streams as content. Those could be individual attention streams or group attention streams or social network attentions streams. See what I mean?

Seth just posted this on his blog today – APIs are the printing presses of social media. Attention is media and we will all have access to attentioncasting APIs? Is this 3.0?

  1. What a data of un-ambiguity and preserveness of precious experience concerning unpredicted
    emotions.
